Russia Unleashes 350 Killer Drones on Ukraine in Retaliatory Strike
Furious Kremlin war chiefs ordered a massive overnight onslaught on Ukraine, launching nearly 350 strike drones in a retaliatory assault that sparked widespread fires and caused multiple injuries across the country. This devastating attack comes as Moscow military insiders risk imprisonment to openly admit that Russia's war machine is inferior to Ukraine's military capabilities.
Widespread Drone Assault Targets Multiple Ukrainian Cities
The Russian assault focused on several key locations including Lutsk in northwestern Ukraine, Khmelnytsky, and Nikopol. Ukrainian defence teams worked tirelessly to intercept the incoming missiles and drones throughout the night.
Lutsk came under attack early Wednesday morning with drones targeting industrial buildings and sparking significant fires. Shortly afterward, a similar attack struck a local warehouse and a residential apartment block in the same area.
Hours earlier, Russian forces attacked Nikopol with strike drones late Tuesday evening, injuring eleven people. The assault damaged a five-story residential complex and local shops in the area. Three people required hospitalization including a 16-year-old girl and a 28-year-old woman.
Ukrainian Air Defence Responds to Massive Drone Wave
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 339 strike unmanned aerial vehicles including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas drones. Approximately 200 of these were Shahed drones, which have become a signature weapon in Russia's arsenal.
The Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled the air attack using a combination of fighter jets, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups. Ukrainian air defences successfully shot down or suppressed 298 Russian drones across the north, south, east, west, and centre of the country.
Despite these defensive efforts, 20 strike UAVs hit 11 locations, while debris from downed drones fell in 5 additional locations, causing further damage and danger to civilians.
Retaliatory Strike Follows Ukrainian Attacks on Russian Infrastructure
This massive Russian drone onslaught followed weeks of ferocious Ukrainian attacks on Russia's industrial base. Kyiv commanders have been targeting Russia's energy and industrial infrastructure in an attempt to cripple Moscow's ability to finance its war effort.
Among these Ukrainian attacks were drone strikes hitting Baltic Sea port facilities where Russia exports oil and gas, as well as direct attacks on energy installations themselves. The Ukrainian strategy appears focused on undermining Russia's economic capacity to sustain its military operations.
Kremlin Insiders Risk Jail to Criticize Russian Military Performance
According to Ukrainian intelligence reports, Russian forces have suffered staggering losses since the war began in February 2022, with 1,298,730 troops killed or injured. Russia has also lost 11,828 tanks and armored vehicles, 435 warplanes, 350 helicopters, and 33 warships sunk by Ukrainian special forces.
Russian military bloggers loyal to the Kremlin are now openly criticizing the tactics employed by Russian commanders and troops on the ground. Risking years of imprisonment, these insiders have begun suggesting that Ukraine represents the superior military force as they have successfully held back the Russian advance.
One of the Kremlin's most widely viewed advocates of Russia's invasion, Yuri Podolyaka, stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine demonstrate superior fighting efficiency compared to the Russian army. He added that any spring offensive attacking Ukraine's eastern and southern regions would likely fail with heavy losses to Russia.
"Little by little, the advantage is going to our enemies," Podolyaka said. "Very experienced guys are working there. They are highly qualified specialists. They know how things work, and they are working to take advantage of the technical superiority that they have. Unfortunately, they are succeeding. I know it seems like we have more strength and more resources, but the enemy is counterattacking, and he is succeeding."
The overnight drone assault represents one of the largest coordinated attacks in recent months, highlighting both the intensity of the conflict and the growing criticism within Russia about the military's performance against what some insiders now acknowledge as a technically superior Ukrainian force.
