Actors Jodie Comer and Benedict Cumberbatch maintained a discreet presence as they collaborated to shoot a BMW advertisement in Spain on Saturday. The filming session saw the two stars keeping a low profile while on set for the luxury car brand's latest promotional campaign.
Casual Styles on Display
Jodie Comer, aged 33, opted for a relaxed and casual outfit during the filming. She wore an oversized shirt layered over a pair of blue flared jeans, creating a comfortable yet stylish look. The actress completed her ensemble with black-and-white shoes and carried her personal items in a black leather handbag.
To add finishing touches to her appearance, Jodie accessorised with a pair of trendy black sunglasses. She was also seen holding a shopping bag while moving between takes on the Spanish set.
Cumberbatch's Understated Look
Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch, aged 49, stepped out in a simple yet elegant outfit. He wore a white buttoned-up shirt paired with classic black trousers for the filming session. The actor finished his look with comfortable trainers, a black cap, and a pair of black sunglasses, maintaining an understated appearance throughout the shoot.
Revelation of Secret Surgery
Benedict's appearance in Spain comes shortly after he revealed he secretly underwent surgery following a serious surfing injury. The actor damaged his shoulder as a result of what he described as 'overdoing' his hobby of wave riding.
Speaking recently on the SmartLess podcast, Cumberbatch disclosed that he eventually went under the knife after enduring persistent pain for more than a year. He explained his decision, saying: 'I had a short operation, so I haven't done it [surfing] at all for about six months. But I love it.'
Chronic Pain and Diagnosis
The actor elaborated on the extent of his injury, noting: 'It's a long time of ill use and a lot of surfing in very bad conditions and overdoing it. I had a torn rotator cuff and then also a frozen shoulder on top of it, which I only found when I went to do the repair to the rotator, which was a complete tear.'
Cumberbatch revealed he had lived with chronic pain for approximately eighteen months before seeking surgical intervention. The persistent discomfort significantly impacted his daily life and recreational activities during that period.
Pandemic Surfing Discovery
The star first developed his passion for surfing when he found himself stranded in New Zealand during the pandemic in 2020. This occurred after he completed filming for the western movie The Power Of The Dog in the country.
Reflecting on his initial experiences, Benedict said: 'It was a bit scary to begin with, but utterly magical and extraordinary. One of the best places on Earth to be, as it turned out. And there was a little right-hand break in Te Awanga in Hawke's Bay. It was where I learned. I really fell in love with it.'
Community and Connection
Cumberbatch also expressed appreciation for how surfing brings together diverse groups of people who might not otherwise interact. He observed: 'I fell in love with the view of the coastline. I fell in love with that connection to the ocean, how present you are and the community as well.'
The actor described the unique social environment found at surfing spots, noting: 'This extraordinary group of people where all is kind of forgiven - as long as you don't take their wave. You know, the drug dealer would be there, and the head of the local police force would be there. Just all of human life was around you.'
Benedict concluded with a poetic reflection on the surfing experience: 'I can't explain to anyone who hasn't surfed what that feeling is, of nature giving you a ride from somewhere out in the ocean towards the shoreline. It's just magic when it works.'
