Detective Hole Season 2: Netflix Crime Drama's Future Debated by Creator and Cast
Netflix has recently launched its gripping new crime series, Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole, and viewers are already eager to know if a second season is on the horizon. The nine-part detective drama, adapted from best-selling crime author Jo Nesbø's novel The Devil's Star, delivers a thrilling narrative that has captivated audiences.
Exclusive Insights from the Creative Team
In an exclusive interview with Mirror publishers Reach Plc, creator Jo Nesbø, lead actor Tobias Santelmann, and co-star Ellen Helinder addressed the show's future. Nesbø revealed that there are currently no plans for a season two, emphasizing the team's focus on the recent release after three years of intensive work.
"No plans yet for a season two," Nesbø stated. "Right now, we're just concentrating on getting this TV series out to the audience, and we've been working on this for three years now. So, just the thought of starting all over again right now is a bit premature, and we're so exhausted right now that we want a vacation."
Cast Members Express Enthusiasm for More
Despite the creator's cautious stance, lead star Tobias Santelmann, who portrays the troubled detective Harry Hole, expressed readiness for another season. "I'm ready. You might be exhausted," Santelmann remarked, prompting a lighthearted response from Nesbø, who joked, "You're ready? Then I'm ready too for season two."
Ellen Helinder, who plays the brilliant forensics officer Beate Lønn, shared her hopes for further seasons, highlighting the potential for character development. "Just to keep working with these amazing people and develop the characters even more," she said. "There's so much to find in these people who work within law enforcement. Even more the morality, the ethical dilemmas, and how is Harry going to cope with everything? Who is Beate? I would like to explore her backstory."
Adaptation from Bestselling Novels
Detective Hole follows Harry Hole as he races against time to track down a serial killer while entangled in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with corrupt police officer Tom Waaler, played by Joel Kinnaman. The series is based on Nesbø's extensive literary work, with The Devil's Star being just one of 13 Harry Hole novels, providing ample material for future seasons.
Nesbø admitted that he hasn't yet considered the direction for a potential season two or which novel it might adapt, leaving the door open for creative exploration. Given the recent release, Netflix will likely monitor viewing figures closely before making any renewal decisions, as the streaming giant evaluates audience reception and demand.
Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole is currently streaming on Netflix, offering fans a deep dive into the dark and complex world of crime-solving, with the cast and creator weighing in on what could come next for this compelling drama.
