The event came as Vice President JD Vance announced that peace talks with Iran had stalled after 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Social media users quickly reacted to the president's reception. One wrote: 'Trump walking in with Dana White to this empty UFC event is about as pathetic as it gets.' UFC chief executive Dana White had confirmed Trump's attendance during a live stream with internet personality Adin Ross, saying: 'We've got the big guy coming on Saturday, too. Yeah, he's coming.' The president's last UFC appearance in April 2025 saw him receive a standing ovation and chants of 'USA!'
The booing comes at a time when Trump's approval ratings have plummeted to record lows, and follows his attendance at a UFC event in June 2024 shortly after being found guilty of 34 felony counts of fraud. Vice President Vance, who led the US delegation in talks with Iran, told reporters: 'The bad news is we have not reached an agreement.' He cited Iran's nuclear ambitions as a key obstacle to peace.
