President Donald Trump has declared the US-Iran ceasefire to be on "life support" following a deadlock in negotiations, branding Tehran's latest proposal as "unbelievably weak" and "garbage." During an Oval Office address focused on maternal health, Trump stated he had not even finished reading Iran's proposal, emphasising its perceived inadequacy and the precarious state of the ceasefire agreement.
Iran Responds to Trump's Remarks
In response, Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, characterised Tehran's proposals as "generous" and "legitimate," demanding an end to the war, the lifting of the US blockade, and the release of frozen assets. Iran also issued a stern warning to the UK and France, asserting that any warships in the Strait of Hormuz "will be met with a decisive response."
Trump's Stance on Military Action
Trump insisted that the US would achieve "complete victory" over Iran, describing his military operation as "very simple" and an example of "military genius." He reiterated that Iran "cannot have a nuclear weapon," underscoring the administration's hardline position.
The ceasefire, which had been brokered to de-escalate tensions, now hangs in the balance as both sides trade accusations. Trump's blunt dismissal of Iran's proposal and his threat of continued military action suggest a prolonged standoff, with diplomatic channels appearing increasingly strained.
