Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly received an unexpected surprise during a live appearance on BBC's The One Show when a former teacher reached out to her. The actress, who is set to reprise her role as Beth Dutton in the upcoming spin-off Dutton Ranch, was discussing the new series with hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp when a message from her old PE teacher was read out.
Roman Kemp shared the message from a viewer named Liz, who said: 'I taught Kelly back in the late 80s at Tolworth Girls' School. It's been a joy seeing her career develop. I told you you could do it. Mrs Brown, head of PE.' Reilly laughed and responded: 'It probably wasn't my best subject, PE, but that was very nice of her. Thank you.'
The original Yellowstone series aired from 2018 to 2024, with Reilly's character Beth Dutton becoming a fan favourite, particularly for her romance with ranch hand Rip Wheeler. The upcoming spin-off Dutton Ranch follows Beth and Rip as they start a new chapter in Texas.
Reflecting on the show's success, Reilly admitted she had not anticipated how massive the series would become. 'You start every single job hoping that someone will watch it,' she said. 'But the script was amazing, and it had Kevin Costner. It had all the right ingredients.' She added that the six-season run and the spin-off have been 'quite a wild ride'.
The actress also spoke of her joy at filming with horses, a passion she has had since childhood. She recalled staying on her horse after filming to ride back down the mountain, saying: 'From Surrey, England, to be filming in the middle of this extraordinary mountainous range of Montana... It sort of moves you, it's so beautiful.'
