Zelenskyy Praises Trump for Trimming Putin's Deadline

Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday praised Donald Trump for showing a 'clear stance and determination' after the US president shortened the deadline for Russia to negotiate peace in Ukraine. Trump set a new, imprecise deadline of '10 or 12 days from today' for progress, cutting about 25 days from his previous 50-day ultimatum. Trump has threatened sanctions on Russia and buyers of its exports unless progress is made.

Zelenskyy thanked Trump for his focus on saving lives and stopping the war, noting that Russia pays attention to sanctions and losses. Trump indicated he was not interested in speaking directly to Vladimir Putin, saying, 'If you know what the answer is going to be, why wait? And it would be sanctions and maybe tariffs, secondary tariffs.'

At least 20 people were killed and more than 40 wounded in Russian strikes overnight into Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said. Sixteen died when a penitentiary in the Zaporizhzhia region was hit, with 35 more injured. Four others were killed in attacks on the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Russian airline Aeroflot was forced to cancel dozens of flights on Monday after a pro-Ukraine hacking group claimed a cyber-attack. The group, Silent Crow, said it destroyed 7,000 servers and gained control over employees' personal computers, threatening to release passenger data. The attack caused chaos at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, with irate passengers venting on social media.

Ukrainian drones have repeatedly disrupted Russian airspace in recent weeks, aiming to bring the war home to ordinary Russians. The tactic appears to be bearing fruit, with regular airport shutdowns and missed holidays becoming a major talking point and source of frustration among the Russian public.

Blackouts occurred in parts of Russian-occupied Donetsk during a mass Ukrainian drone attack on Monday, leaving about 160,000 customers without power. Ukraine's Sumy region also came under Russian attack, with a man injured by a drone while taking a cow out to pasture.
