Brazil have formally demanded that FIFA never assign referee Cesar Ramos to any of their matches again, following a contentious decision during their 3-0 victory over Scotland in the World Cup group stage.
Referee Controversy in Brazil vs Scotland
During the first half, Vinicius Junior scored what appeared to be a legitimate goal, but after a VAR review, Mexican referee Cesar Ramos disallowed it, ruling that Vinicius had fouled Scotland defender Jack Hendry in the buildup. The decision left Brazilian players furious, despite Vinicius later scoring a brace and Matheus Cunha adding a third goal.
According to Brazilian publication Estadao, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has sent a formal complaint to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, specifically requesting that Ramos not officiate any of Brazil's remaining World Cup matches. The CBF cited a "negative history" with Ramos, dating back to 2018 when Brazil was denied a penalty against Switzerland in a group-stage match.
Brazil's Complaint to FIFA
CBF president Samir Xaud filed the complaint, emphasizing that Brazil wants to avoid further refereeing controversies. Although the disallowed goal did not affect the final result, the federation is taking a firm stance to protect their chances in the knockout stages.
Brazil secured top spot in Group H with the win, finishing ahead of Morocco on goal difference. They will face Japan in the round of 32, with the winner meeting either Ivory Coast or Norway in the last 16.
Ancelotti Praises Vinicius Junior
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti did not comment on the refereeing decision after the match but praised Vinicius Junior, who now has four goals in the tournament. "Vini is in great form at the moment and the team helps him a lot," Ancelotti said. "He can play in various positions, both on the inside and on the wing. It's very rewarding to see Vinicius like this; I had no doubt he could reach this level. I wasn't the one who discovered Vini; he's a top-class player, one of the best in the world."
