Beloved Father Dies Weeks After Vicious Attack in Sandown
A cherished father-of-two has tragically died just weeks after he was targeted in a brutal attack outside his home on the Isle of Wight, leaving his family heartbroken and seeking answers.
Details of the Alleged Assault
Graham Hyslop, aged 55, was allegedly assaulted on February 19 this year in Sandown. According to reports, he was knocked out of his wheelchair, spat on, kicked, and robbed of his bank card. Three teenagers, including two aged 14 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of robbery, with one also facing charges for possession of an offensive weapon.
Following the incident, Graham was rushed to hospital and treated for injuries to his head and arms. He later returned to his normal life, but his ex-wife, Hazel Hyslop, confirmed he has since passed away.
Family Remembers a 'Lovely' Man
Hazel, 60, who shared two children with Graham, described him as a 'lovely' family man who 'didn't deserve' what happened. The couple separated in 2017 after Graham experienced multiple heart attacks, but remained best friends, speaking daily.
On the day of the attack, Graham had ventured outside in his wheelchair to pick up a can that had been thrown over his wall. Hazel recounted that his alleged attackers approached him, spat on his back, kicked him, and pushed him out of his wheelchair, stealing his bank card in the process.
Unexplained Death and Ongoing Investigation
Graham died in his sleep on March 1, with Hazel and his mother discovering him after he failed to answer his phone. His death is currently being treated as unexplained and remains under investigation, though it is not yet linked to the assault.
The family is awaiting autopsy results, and his passing has left his children, Chloe, 19, and Jack, 20, devastated. Hazel expressed anger and disbelief, stating, 'We just can't get our heads around it. It just seems like we've been in a really bad dream.'
