Anti-immigration protesters gathered outside a block of flats in Edinburgh on Friday, following the arrest of a man in connection with an incident that left two people injured. The demonstration took place at Cobbinshaw House in the Calder area, where protesters voiced opposition to illegal immigration and criticised Police Scotland, as well as the Scottish and UK Governments.
The protesters chanted slogans including “stop the boats” before marching to St Nicholas Parish Church, where a small group of counter-protesters had assembled. Police Scotland deployed a significant number of officers to keep the two groups apart, and no physical violence was reported between them.
The protest comes after Mustafa Kokoneh, 23, appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, facing eight charges including two counts of attempted murder. The charges relate to an incident on Monday in which two people were injured.
