A body discovered in Colombia has been identified as Eric Fernando Gutiérrez Molina, a 32-year-old American Airlines flight attendant who went missing during a layover in Medellín. His family confirmed the identification on Monday, following an announcement by Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez that a lifeless body had been found between Jericó and Puente Iglesias.
Gutiérrez Molina, from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, vanished on March 21 after a night out with a colleague. According to Medellín Security Secretary Manuel Villa, the pair encountered individuals with a history of theft who used scopolamine, a drug that can cause dizziness and hallucinations. The colleague returned to her hotel disoriented, but Gutiérrez Molina did not.
Mayor Gutiérrez expressed solidarity with the family and said investigations are advanced, with clear leads on those responsible. He called for justice and possible extradition of the perpetrators. American Airlines stated it is heartbroken and assisting Colombian law enforcement.
A GoFundMe page set up by Gutiérrez Molina's brother described him as a 'ball of sunshine' and a 'docile, charismatic, goofy man.' The family is seeking donations to repatriate his body from Colombia to Texas.
