Liverpool Mother's £100 Emergency Kit for World War Three Preparedness
A woman from Liverpool, who became convinced that the world was going to end following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has publicly disclosed the contents of her meticulously assembled emergency 'go bag'. Sophie Poland, a lifelong prepper, invested approximately £100 in a survival kit that includes over 50 items, ranging from water purification tablets to rope and essential medicines.
From Religious Upbringing to Modern Fears
Raised as a Jehovah's Witness, Sophie was accustomed to preparing for Armageddon, though she admits she 'never took it seriously' during her youth. Now, despite no longer adhering to the religion, the resurgence of global tensions, particularly between the US and Iran, has reignited her anxieties about a potential World War Three. This has prompted her to share her preparedness strategies on social media platforms.
'I've got two bags,' explained Sophie, a mother-of-one and property advisor. 'One is for everyday essentials, and the second, which I haven't filmed yet, contains clothes and spares. The main focus is the first bag, but I've packed so much into it.' Her husband, Daniel, 38, has labeled her prepping efforts as 'ridiculous', yet Sophie firmly believes that everyone should be equipped for emergencies.
The Catalyst for Preparedness
Sophie attributes her heightened vigilance to the pervasive news coverage and social media algorithms that amplified her fears. 'If I hadn't been brought up that way, seeing the war in Russia and Ukraine and thinking World War Three was coming, I would never have thought to have a bag prepared,' she stated. 'That was the catalyst. I was completely convinced by the news and social media that something terrible was going to happen.'
She acknowledges that she may have gone 'completely overboard', but maintains that possessing survival knowledge and equipment is a sensible precaution. Her kit, assembled for just £100, features items such as fire starters, a handheld saw, a compass, maps, foil blankets, and an emergency tube tent.
Essential and Personal Items in the Bag
Sophie's emergency bag is comprehensive, including practical tools and personal comforts. 'I've got water purification tablets enough for 2,000 litres, a tin opener, high-calorie foods, a battery, and a wind-up radio,' she detailed. 'The radio is crucial because if electronics fail, people can't use phones.'
Interestingly, she has also included cosmetics like a razor and shampoo, which have drawn laughter from friends. 'You're not going to be bothered to shave your legs when it's World War Three,' they joke. However, Sophie defends this choice: 'You never know, you need to be comfortable. If I'm living in the woods, I need to shave my armpits to feel comfortable.'
Her social media posts, particularly on TikTok, have sparked conversations among her peers. 'Everybody knows about it. If I'm on a night out, someone will bring it up, and we'll have a laugh. I'll say, "I'll send you the videos tomorrow,"' she shared.
Advocating for Universal Preparedness
Despite the humorous aspects, Sophie emphasizes the importance of emergency readiness. 'I do think everybody should have some sort of emergency bag because you just don't know what's going to happen, especially nowadays,' she urged. Her experience highlights how global events and digital media can influence personal safety measures, making prepping a relevant topic for many.
Sophie's story serves as a reminder of the growing trend toward self-reliance in uncertain times, blending practical survival skills with personal touches to navigate potential crises.
