A newly released video has cast a stark new light on the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother-of-three, by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis. The footage, captured from the shooter's own perspective, directly contradicts claims from the Trump administration that the agent acted in self-defence.
A Frigid Morning Turns to Tragedy
On a bitterly cold January day, Renee Good, who described herself as a poet and writer, had wrapped up warm to drive her son to school. After dropping him off, the recent Minneapolis resident encountered a group of ICE agents conducting an immigration raid. Wearing a red hoodie and woollen hat, she was in her maroon Honda Pilot when the confrontation began.
The new video shows the ICE agent exiting his vehicle and approaching Renee's car, which had partially blocked the road. He filmed her registration and face. Renee rolled down her window and engaged calmly, stating, "That's fine, dude. I'm not mad at you." She identified herself as a US citizen and a former Navy veteran.
The Fatal Escalation Captured on Camera
As more officers arrived, they began shouting at Renee to "Get out of the f***ing car." The critical footage shows Renee turning her steering wheel to the right, manoeuvring to drive around the agent standing in front of her vehicle. Analysis by the Mirror reveals the agent then switched the phone he was filming with to his left hand, freeing his right hand to draw his weapon ten seconds later.
Three shots rang out. As Renee's car rolled towards parked vehicles, the ICE agent was heard uttering a slur: "F***ing b**ch." Renee Good, a mother to three children aged 15, 12, and 6, was dead.
Aftermath and a Nation's Outrage
The video's aftermath is equally harrowing. A physician on the scene attempted to check Renee's pulse but was allegedly blocked by ICE agents and told to "back up," with one officer reportedly stating "I don't care" when informed of his medical credentials. A distraught neighbour cried out, "How can I relax when you just killed my f****** neighbour?"
Renee's partner, believed to be the woman filming the agent at the start, was found sitting on the icy ground, covered in blood and sobbing, "I made her come here, it's my fault. They shot her in the head."
Despite the video evidence showing Renee steering around the officer, the White House and Vice President JD Vance have maintained the shooting was an act of self-defence against a driver "weaponising" her vehicle. The incident occurred roughly a mile from where George Floyd was murdered in 2020, and it has sparked fresh protests across American cities.
In a grotesque postscript, Elon Musk's Grok AI on X was used to generate an "undressed" image of Renee's body at the scene, altering it to appear in a bikini. The manipulated image was viewed over 386,000 times, provoking widespread condemnation.
Renee's family remember her as a kind, compassionate Christian and devoted mother. Her ex-husband stressed she was not an activist. The Trump administration has deployed over 2,000 federal officers to Minnesota as part of an expanded enforcement drive, signalling no retreat from its hardline stance.
