Newly released official documents have laid bare the tragic final moments of Renee Good, the 37-year-old mother shot and killed by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis.
Paramedics' Harrowing Discovery
According to a Minneapolis Fire Department report obtained by The Minnesota Star Tribune, paramedics arrived at the scene at 9.42am to find a horrific sight. Renee Good was unresponsive inside her vehicle, with blood covering her face and torso. The first responders noted she was not breathing and had an "inconsistent" and "irregular" pulse.
The report, which provides new details, states that medics counted four gunshot wounds on Good's body: two to her right chest, one to the left side of her head, and another on her forearm. Crucially, they also observed that blood was gushing from her left ear.
A Desperate Attempt to Save a Life
Faced with an escalating situation involving law enforcement and bystanders, paramedics moved Good from her car to a pavement to create separation. At that point, she remained pulseless and was not breathing. She was rushed to hospital via ambulance, but cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was ultimately stopped at 10.30am.
The shooting occurred after ICE officers surrounded Good's car. A transcript from a 911 call from the scene reported that "they shot her [because] she wouldn't open her car door." The US citizen had allegedly appeared to try to drive away before agent Jonathan Ross opened fire.
Political Fallout and Contested Narratives
The release of the paramedic's report comes amidst intense political controversy. Figures from Donald Trump's administration quickly moved to defend the ICE agent involved. Senator JD Vance controversially described the killing as "a tragedy of her own making."
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed Good had "attempted to run" over the officer and "weaponised her vehicle," going so far as to label her actions "domestic terrorism." However, these claims were called into question just two days after her death when bodycam footage from the agent was released.
The agent who shot Renee Good has been identified as Jonathan Ross, who lives in a Minneapolis suburb. Neighbours speaking to NBC News described him as a "hardcore MAGA fan," noting pro-Trump flags and Gadsden signs outside his home during the presidential race.
The incident has sparked ongoing protests in Minneapolis and a fierce national debate over the conduct and accountability of immigration enforcement officers in the United States.
