Republican Representative Lauren Boebert has dismissed President Donald Trump's threat to endorse a primary challenger against her, pointing out that the candidate filing deadline in Colorado passed on March 18, two months before Trump's remarks.
Trump's Threat and Boebert's Response
President Trump labeled Boebert as 'weak-minded' and threatened to back a primary opponent. In response, Boebert stated, 'I stood by the president, I stand by my friend,' emphasizing her loyalty while noting the impossibility of a primary challenge at this stage.
Context of the Dispute
Trump's anger stemmed from Boebert campaigning for fellow Republican Thomas Massie, a known critic of Trump within the House Republican conference. Massie recently lost his primary to Ed Gallrein. Boebert suggested that Gallrein's victory was due to Trump's endorsement rather than his own merits.
This is not the first clash between Boebert and Trump. Previously, Trump vetoed Boebert's legislation aimed at securing clean drinking water in Colorado.
Boebert concluded, 'I've got work to do,' signaling her focus on her current duties despite the political friction.
