Pep Guardiola to Snub David Beckham's Inter Miami Offer for Sabbatical
Pep Guardiola Snubs Inter Miami for Sabbatical

Pep Guardiola will snub a stunning approach from Sir David Beckham to become the new Inter Miami manager, as the former Manchester City boss is determined to take a sabbatical from football.

Beckham's Top Target

Inter Miami co-owner Beckham has made Guardiola his No.1 choice to replace Javier Mascherano, who quit last month. Since Mascherano's departure, Beckham and the Inter Miami hierarchy have held off appointing a replacement, having decided to wait and see if Guardiola could be persuaded to head Stateside.

Beckham knows luring Guardiola to his club would be a seismic coup for both Inter and MLS in general. It would also see the Spaniard reunited with Lionel Messi, who played under him at Barcelona — not to mention hand a huge boost to Inter's marketing appeal.

Guardiola's Decision

But Guardiola has let it be known that Beckham is wasting his time attempting to persuade him to make an immediate return to football. Guardiola stood down as Manchester City boss at the end of the season, following a decade of dominance at the Etihad. He is determined to take a sabbatical from the game, to spend time with his loved ones and recharge his batteries.

Inter bosses would have loved the chance to speak to Guardiola in person during the World Cup. But it's understood Guardiola has no plans to travel to the tournament this summer.

International Ambitions

Guardiola has told those close to him that he would like his next managerial job to be an international one. And the fact he is now available again has not gone unnoticed at the Football Association. FA bosses wanted to make Guardiola the next England manager following Gareth Southgate's resignation in 2024, but striking a deal was unrealistic at the time.

He has remained on their radar, however, and would be the top choice to succeed Thomas Tuchel in the future. Tuchel has a deal in place to lead England through to Euro 2028, but knows his job will be on the line if his Three Lions flop at this summer's World Cup. Guardiola, meanwhile, is said to find the England role appealing and would seriously consider accepting it if he was ever offered the job in the future.
