Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert, labelling her as 'weak minded' after she endorsed Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, a vocal critic of the former president. The clash highlights deepening rifts within the Republican Party as Trump continues to assert his influence over primary elections.
Trump's Truth Social Outburst
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump accused Boebert of being a 'Carpetbagger' and suggested he might withdraw his endorsement for her re-election. This marks a dramatic reversal, as Trump had previously endorsed Boebert multiple times. He wrote that Boebert's endorsement of Massie was a betrayal of the 'America First' agenda.
Boebert's Response
Boebert responded on X (formerly Twitter), stating she was not 'mad or offended' by Trump's post. She reaffirmed her commitment to the MAGA movement and defended Massie, saying he has been a strong conservative voice. 'I stand with Thomas Massie because he stands for our principles,' she wrote.
Kentucky Primary Battle
Trump has been actively campaigning against Massie in Kentucky's upcoming primary election, endorsing his opponent, Ed Gallrein. Massie has clashed with Trump on issues including the Iran war and investigations into Jeffrey Epstein. The former president has made defeating Massie a priority, seeing him as a disloyal Republican.
Despite Trump's threat to withdraw his endorsement from Boebert, the filing deadline for Colorado's congressional primaries has already passed. This means it is too late for a new Trump-backed candidate to challenge Boebert in her district. Boebert is currently seeking re-election in Colorado's 4th congressional district.
The incident underscores the volatile nature of Trump's relationships with fellow Republicans. While he remains a dominant force in the party, his willingness to attack allies who deviate from his line could create further divisions ahead of the 2026 midterms.
