Luka Doncic Seeks Dismissal of Ex-Fiancée's Child Support Petition in California
NBA superstar Luka Doncic has formally requested a judge to dismiss a petition for child support and attorney fees filed by his ex-fiancée, Anamaria Goltes, arguing that the legal action was submitted in the wrong country. The Los Angeles Lakers point guard, through his attorney Laura Wasser, filed documents in an LA County court seeking dismissal on jurisdictional grounds.
Jurisdictional Dispute Over Child Support Filing
According to reports, Doncic contends that Goltes improperly filed the petition in California, despite the fact that neither he nor their two daughters are residents of the state. Goltes returned to Slovenia, the couple's home country, in May of last year with their daughter Gabriela while pregnant with their second child, Olivia, and has remained there since. Doncic asserts that he is not a California resident and that his children live in Slovenia, making the California court an inappropriate venue for the child support case.
Doncic claims to have previously filed a petition in Slovenia addressing both child support and custody matters before Goltes submitted her documents in California earlier this month. He reportedly states that he covers all expenses for two-year-old Gabriela and four-month-old Olivia, and is asking the court to dismiss the petition as procedurally defective and legally improper.
Background of the Bitter Legal Battle
The legal dispute follows the couple's separation, which was revealed earlier this month. Doncic, 27, and Goltes, 28, a fashion and fitness model, had been in a relationship since 2016 and were engaged for seven years before their split. They welcomed Gabriela in November 2023 and Olivia in December of last year.
Doncic reportedly tried to convince Goltes to move to California with their children, but she refused, which is believed to have contributed to their breakup. This refusal has now escalated into a transatlantic custody battle, with Doncic quietly filing an injunction to see his daughters after Goltes relocated to Slovenia.
Incident at Kranj Maternity Hospital
During a visit to Slovenia in December for Olivia's birth, Doncic allegedly begged Goltes to allow Gabriela to return to California with him. The dispute turned ugly, leading to police being called to Kranj Maternity Hospital. However, officers reported that Doncic had peacefully left the hospital before the call was made, and they did not detect any criminal offense or misdemeanor by him after interviewing both parties.
Doncic's Response to Family Drama
Following his return to play with the Lakers last week, Doncic was asked about balancing his performance with the family drama. In Slovenian, he reportedly said, 'That's life, I don't know what to say. But that's my job so I have to be here. They pay me a lot to play for them so... and also basketball is giving me some kind of peace when I play a game.' Doncic is on a three-year contract worth $165 million with the Lakers.
The case highlights the complexities of international child support and custody disputes, with Doncic seeking to resolve the matter through Slovenian courts rather than in California. Daily Mail has contacted Laura Wasser for comment on the ongoing legal proceedings.
