Exclusive: England's World Cup Hotel to Host Special Reception for Local Residents
Residents living near England's World Cup team hotel in Kansas City are set to receive a special invitation to a meet-and-greet reception as both a thank you and an apology for the disruption caused by the squad's five-week stay. The exclusive event is part of a series of sweeteners offered by hotel management to compensate locals for the inconvenience.
Hotel Closure and Community Impact
The entire Inn at Meadowbrook hotel will be closed to the public for at least five weeks as it becomes the exclusive headquarters for Thomas Tuchel's England squad during the World Cup. This closure includes the hotel's restaurants, The Market and Verbena, which will be dedicated solely to team operations.
In a lengthy letter to local residents, hotel bosses apologized in advance for the temporary changes to daily life in the Meadowbrook Park area. "While this is an exciting development, it will bring some temporary changes to daily life in the neighbourhood," the letter stated, acknowledging the disruption while emphasizing efforts to minimize impact.
Compensation for Residents
Beyond the special reception where residents can meet England players, the hotel is offering discount cards for both restaurants that can be used until the end of the year. The letter explained: "In a welcome gesture, the group plans to host a Residents-only reception to introduce themselves to the neighbourhood."
The hotel management described England's choice of their facility as "a remarkable distinction for our community and a testament to the world-class setting Meadowbrook offers." While not explicitly naming England as their guests in the letter, manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the team's stay at the location.
Training Facilities and Accommodation Details
Work has already begun on improving facilities at the nearby Swope Soccer Village where the England squad will train during their stay. Tuchel expressed his satisfaction with both the hotel and training facilities, highlighting the intimate nature of the accommodation choice.
"We chose a hotel where you can open the window, we chose a hotel where it's an intimate and small place," Tuchel explained, contrasting it with larger American hotels that can feel impersonal. "I think once we get used to that place, it makes sense to go back."
The hotel features an outdoor pool, hot tub, and a well-stocked wine cellar that includes premium options like a £750 Californian Red and £190 Rose champagne for potential celebration if England progresses far in the tournament.
Ongoing Communication and Discretion Request
The hotel letter stated multiple times that additional details regarding impacts on the Meadowbrook Park area will be shared closer to the team's arrival, approximately 90 days away. "As we are still approximately 90 days from the group's arrival, some details may continue to evolve," the letter noted.
Management ended the communication by asking for residents' "discretion" about plans for the team's stay, emphasizing the professional training focus of the England squad during their time in Kansas City. The letter assured residents that every effort was being made to ensure minimal disruption to the neighbourhood's day-to-day character during this exceptional period.
