Brett Favre Opts for Conservative Halftime Show Over Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Performance
Legendary NFL quarterback Brett Favre has publicly declared that he will not be watching Bad Bunny's highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show this Sunday night. Instead, the Super Bowl champion plans to tune into an alternative conservative broadcast organized by Turning Point USA, featuring headliner Kid Rock.
Controversial Halftime Selection Sparks Division
The announcement that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, would perform at Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara has generated significant controversy since it was first revealed five months ago. Many conservative Americans have pledged to boycott the performance due to the artist's vocal opposition to former President Donald Trump and his immigration policies, along with the fact that nearly all his songs are performed in Spanish.
Favre explained his decision on social media platform X, writing: 'Not familiar with Bad Bunny so don't know if his music is good or bad. I'm just going to watch what I know Lee Brice, Kid Rock All-American Halftime Show.'
Turning Point USA's Conservative Alternative
In response to the outrage surrounding Bad Bunny's selection, Turning Point USA—the nonprofit organization founded by late MAGA activist Charlie Kirk—has created its own halftime show specifically targeting conservative viewers. The alternative broadcast will be headlined by legendary country rock singer Kid Rock, with additional performances planned.
Favre is not alone in his criticism of the NFL's choice. When Bad Bunny was initially announced as the halftime act in September, the former quarterback criticized the decision, arguing that the honor should have been given to someone who 'loves this country and that everyone could relate to.'
Bad Bunny's Political Activism Fuels Controversy
The Latino artist has been openly critical of the Trump administration and has specifically targeted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. At the 2026 Grammy Awards last weekend, Bad Bunny used his acceptance speech to declare 'ICE Out' before receiving a massive ovation from the crowd.
He continued: 'We are not savage. We are not animals. We are not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans. The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.'
Additional NFL Criticism Emerges
Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson has also questioned the NFL's decision to select Bad Bunny for the prestigious halftime slot. Following the controversial September unveiling, Dickerson claimed he would rather see anyone else perform. Just days before Super Bowl LX, he doubled down on his criticism.
'Why can't we get somebody from right here, from home? How about someone from right here in San Francisco? All these artists right here in the area to play at the Super Bowl,' Dickerson stated. 'I don't see why they chose that. But the NFL does things that just baffle your mind.'
Dickerson further questioned how a Spanish-language performance would connect with a broader national audience, and when reminded that Puerto Rico is American territory, he emphasized that Puerto Ricans don't have the right to vote in presidential elections.
The division over Bad Bunny's Super Bowl performance highlights ongoing cultural and political tensions within American sports entertainment, with conservative alternatives gaining traction among certain segments of the viewing public.
