Tennis Star Jessica Pegula's Inheritance Skyrockets as Father's Fortune Nears $10bn Milestone
Jessica Pegula, currently ranked world No. 5 in women's singles, is widely known as the wealthiest tennis player globally due to her family's extraordinary riches. Her father, Terrence 'Terry' Pegula, has seen his net worth surge dramatically, bringing Jessica's future inheritance to incredible new heights.
Billionaire Father's Wealth Expansion
Terry Pegula recently enjoyed a staggering $1.7 billion increase in his wealth, pushing his total fortune to an eye-watering $9.3 billion. This remarkable growth brings him tantalizingly close to the $10 billion milestone, with Forbes currently ranking him as the 367th richest person on the planet.
The billionaire built his fortune through successful ventures in the oil and gas sector, while also owning major sporting franchises including the NFL's Buffalo Bills and NHL's Buffalo Sabres. The family's luxurious lifestyle includes a £58 million superyacht named Top Five II and a private jet that Jessica regularly uses, sometimes sharing with fellow tennis professionals.
Pegula's Tennis Career Continues to Flourish
Despite her family's immense wealth, Jessica Pegula remains fiercely dedicated to her tennis career. The 32-year-old American has climbed as high as No. 3 in singles and No. 1 in doubles rankings, demonstrating her commitment to the sport she loves.
Her recent victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships in February, where she defeated Elina Svitolina 6-2 6-4 in the final, marked her 10th career singles trophy. Earlier this year, she reached the Australian Open semi-final, while her finest Grand Slam performance came in 2024 when she advanced to the US Open final. In doubles, her strongest result was reaching the French Open final in 2022.
Addressing Questions About Motivation
Some have questioned why Pegula continues to dedicate such effort to her tennis career given her substantial inheritance prospects. The American star recently addressed these queries directly, explaining her lifelong passion for the sport.
"I don't know. It's something I've loved to do since I was a kid, since before I had anything about my family or money or the teams or stuff like that," Pegula stated. "I wanted to be No. 1 in the world when I was, like, six years old. It's been my dream for as long as I can remember to be No. 1, to be able to play on tour, to be able to win Slams."
She added: "I mean, it's pretty cool that I can look back and say that I'm putting myself in contention to do that, living out my dream. Yeah, it's just honestly been a goal of mine since I was a little girl."
Pegula is currently competing at Indian Wells in California, where she faces Switzerland's Belinda Bencic in the round of 16 on Wednesday evening. Her continued success on court demonstrates that her motivation stems from genuine passion rather than financial necessity.
