Luke Humphries Wins £3,250 on Cheltenham Festival's First Race

Thousands of enthusiastic racing fans have descended upon Cheltenham this week, all hoping to select a victorious horse, and darts superstar Luke Humphries struck gold on the very first day by securing a substantial £3,250 payout from the initial race of the prestigious festival.

The 2024 world darts champion was present at the course on Tuesday alongside his competitors, Luke Littler and Nathan Aspinall, and he quickly took advantage of the betting opportunities. Humphries placed a bold £1,000 wager on Old Park Star, which was running at odds of 9/4.

Victorious Bet for Humphries

Nicky Henderson's undefeated hurdler, Old Park Star, ridden by jockey Nico de Boinville, delivered a thrilling performance. The horse surged ahead in the final stretch, overtaking Sober Glory, which had maintained the lead for most of the race, thereby securing Humphries' winning bet.

Humphries was photographed with racing analyst Pro Sports Advice, who achieved an even more impressive win of £17,500 after staking £5,000 on Old Park Star. The 31-year-old darts player confirmed that his winnings would be donated to charitable causes.

Luke Littler Also in Attendance

Luke Littler, who has recently surpassed Humphries to become the world number one by clinching the last two World Championship titles, attended the festival with his girlfriend, Faith Millar. He was spotted at the course early on the second day, which was designated as Ladies Day.

Upcoming Premier League Showdown

Both Littler and Humphries are set to travel approximately 100 miles north to Nottingham for the sixth night of the Premier League darts tournament on Thursday. There is a possibility they could face each other in the semi-finals, reigniting their competitive rivalry.

The friends and rivals have contested the final in each of the previous two seasons, with each player claiming one victory. However, both have experienced a sluggish start to this year's tournament. Humphries has not yet reached a final and currently finds himself outside the top four positions, which qualify for the finals night at London's O2 Arena in May. In contrast, Littler holds third place after breaking his duck last week in Cardiff, where he defeated Jonny Clayton to secure the week five trophy.
