Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has initiated legal proceedings against his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, alleging they utilised limited liability companies to divert millions of dollars from his financial accounts for their personal benefit. The lawsuit, obtained by the Daily Mail and initially reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, was filed in Pennsylvania and outlines serious claims of financial mismanagement.
Allegations of Systematic Financial Misconduct
The complaint asserts that Daniel and Lisa Bohm established two LLCs in 2019 to manage their son's burgeoning assets as his baseball career advanced. According to the filing, the parents informed Alec that they required a 10-percent stake in these entities to administer his funds effectively, while assuring him he retained full ownership of all assets and funds.
Daniel and Lisa repeatedly advised Alec that, whenever they acted on his behalf, they did so as Alec's parents — whose assistance always came free of charge, the lawsuit states. However, the legal documents contend that both the LLCs and a foundation launched in Alec's name were exploited by his parents for their own financial purposes.
Escalating Transfers and Property Control
The lawsuit describes how the parents' actions allegedly grew increasingly bold with each transfer. They subsequently formed additional LLCs to control Alec's personal residence, again claiming a 10-percent stake was necessary for property management. The complaint details that in January, when Alec requested documentation regarding his various holdings, his parents refused to provide electronic login information, account statements, tax instruments, or other accessible records.
Instead, Daniel and Lisa engaged legal counsel who produced limited information to feign cooperation, according to the lawsuit. Shortly thereafter, Alec was informed through his parents' attorney that they intended to submit invoices for compensation they believed they were owed for managing his assets.
Legal Claims and Financial Demands
Alec Bohm's initial investigation suggests his parents misappropriated a substantial sum of money, though the exact amount remains under review. The 29-year-old slugger is seeking at least $1 million in damages, plus interest, penalties, costs, attorneys' fees, and any additional relief the court deems appropriate.
In other words, Daniel and Lisa not only deceived Alec through their misrepresentations about the reason for their interests in [the LLCs], but also, Daniel and Lisa now claim that they possess equity rights and are due compensation for 'services' they provided, the lawsuit emphasizes.
Parental Denial and Professional Context
Through their attorney Robert Eckard, Daniel and Lisa Bohm have denied any wrongdoing, expressing deep sadness over the allegations. Mr. and Mrs. Bohm love their son very much and have always acted in his best interests, both personally and professionally and still do so to this day, Eckard told the Inquirer. They believe the allegations are entirely without merit.
Alec Bohm, the third overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, is currently on a one-year, $10 million contract with the Phillies. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the season, potentially positioning him for a significant salary increase. Off the field, Bohm is reportedly dating ESPN host Erin Dolan, adding a personal dimension to the ongoing legal dispute.
The Daily Mail has sought comment from Alec's attorney as the case develops, highlighting the complex intersection of family dynamics, professional athletics, and financial management in high-stakes sports careers.
