UFC's White House Event: Dana White Announces 85,000 Free Tickets for Historic Fight
UFC White House Event: Dana White Announces 85,000 Free Tickets

UFC CEO Dana White has unveiled a major surprise for fight fans, confirming that a staggering 85,000 free tickets will be distributed for the organisation's historic White House event scheduled for 14 June. This unprecedented fight card, set to take place on the South Lawn, forms part of celebrations marking 250 years of the United States and coincides with the 80th birthday of US President Donald Trump, a close friend of White.

Unprecedented Access to a Historic Event

In a significant announcement on Thursday, White detailed the ticketing plan for the event, named 'UFC: Freedom 250'. He explained that the layout of the White House grounds allows for a large public audience. "The way that the White House is laid out, you've got the White House, you've got the South Lawn, and then there's a road, and then the Ellipse," White stated. "There's a park that's right there. We're gonna be ticketing 85,000 people in the Ellipse, and the tickets are free, and we'll announce how we're gonna be giving them away soon."

White encouraged fans to make travel arrangements, adding, "But you should plan on going to Washington DC for this event." This move comes after initial disappointment from some fans who felt the event was overhyped following its announcement last week. Previously, it was confirmed that no tickets would be sold, with very limited ringside access expected.

Security Concerns and Broader Context

The event has raised notable security concerns, with White, 56, previously mentioning the possibility of snipers on the White House roof. UFC commentator Joe Rogan expressed apprehension on his podcast, stating, "It's going to be very high security and high stress, and weird to have a fight at the White House in the middle of a f***ing war." Rogan referenced the ongoing US conflict with Iran, noting, "I would hope the war will be sorted out by June, but quite honestly, I'm not confident that's going to be the case. So, that'll be weird, having this very high-profile event where everyone's in one place at one time right there."

This UFC event is part of a busy summer for the US, which is the main host of the FIFA World Cup from 11 June to 19 July, with 11 cities staging matches. Mexico and Canada are co-hosts, contributing three and two matches respectively.

Fight Card Details and National Representation

The main event of 'UFC: Freedom 250' will feature Ilia Topuria defending his lightweight belt against interim champion Justin Gaethje. In the co-main event, Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane will compete for the interim heavyweight title, with Pereira aiming to become the UFC's first-ever three-weight champion.

Additional bouts on the card include Sean O'Malley versus Aiemann Zahabi, Michael Chandler facing Mauricio Ruffy, Bo Nickal taking on Kyle Daukaus, and Diego Lopes fighting Steve Garcia. Of the 12 participants, six represent the United States: Gaethje, O'Malley, Chandler, Nickal, Daukaus, and Garcia, highlighting a strong domestic presence at this landmark event.
