Strictly's Amy Dowden Mourns Friend Who Died After Childbirth

Amy Dowden, the Strictly Come Dancing professional, has announced the death of her close friend Bex, who died after suffering a blood clot on the brain just one day after giving birth. The 35-year-old dancer shared the news on social media, describing Bex as 'fit, healthy, kind' and a 'truly good soul'.

Dowden revealed that Bex had given birth to a baby boy the day before her death, completing her family with her partner Sean and their three-year-old daughter. She noted that Bex was an organ donor, helping others 'right until the very end'.

The dancer shared fond memories of their friendship, including being roommates at Blackpool, Bex calming her before her first Strictly rehearsal, and making an eight-hour round trip to visit her during chemotherapy. Dowden vowed to look after Bex's family and keep her close always.

The loss comes after Dowden's own health struggles. She was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer in May 2023, underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and was declared cancer-free in February 2024. She returned to Strictly but later withdrew due to a foot injury. She competed in the 2025 season but was the first couple voted off.
