Dramatic footage captured the moment a cable snapped on a fairground ride in Seville, Spain, sending thrill-seekers crashing toward the ground. The incident occurred on Friday evening at the city's famous annual fair, where the Steel Max slingshot ride malfunctioned.
Details of the Incident
The catapult bungee ride had passengers strapped into seats when it was launched into the air. As the ride swung in a circle, the cable suddenly snapped, causing the seats to plummet at high speed. Onlookers could be heard screaming and shouting, 'My God,' as the accident unfolded. Separate footage showed passengers lying on the ground near the ride as they awaited paramedics.
Four people, including two children, sustained minor injuries. According to local newspaper El Diario de Sevilla, two children were left suspended in mid-air momentarily. The Seville City Council reported that two victims were treated at the fairground site, which was sealed off by firefighters.
Investigation and Aftermath
The area has been cordoned off as local police launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. The incident occurred during Seville's 'Feria de Abril' spring fair, a celebration of Andalusian culture featuring music, dancing, and traditional dress.
This incident follows a tragic event last August at the Spanish City Summer Funfair in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, where a fairground worker in his 20s died after suffering serious head injuries from an 'emergency incident' on a ride. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead. Northumbria Police confirmed his next of kin were contacted and supported by specialist officers.
