Coronation Street's Ken Barlow is set to be attacked by his own son Daniel Osbourne, actor Rob Mallard has revealed. The 34-year-old, who plays Daniel, teased a heartbreaking twist as his character spirals further following a series of traumatic events.
Daniel has been struggling to cope after discovering his ex-girlfriend Megan was a paedophile who abused teenager Will Driscoll. Now serving time, Megan's actions have left Daniel in hiding, but he has let mysterious Jodie Ramsey into his life. Jodie has been spreading false and defamatory rumours about Daniel online, putting his career at risk.
In upcoming scenes, Daniel lashes out at his father Ken during a tense family moment at number one. Mallard explained: 'They corner him in the Barlows and I think he just feels trapped, he goes to lash out at Adam and he catches Ken. It's always Ken that he seems to hurt.'
The drama intensifies when Daniel gets drunk and his seven-year-old son Bertie accidentally starts a fire in their flat. Social services then visit, threatening Daniel's custody of Bertie. Mallard said: 'It's 100% a wake-up call. He's completely beside himself, he thinks that he's going to have his kid taken off him.'
Daniel will also discover Jodie is behind the slanderous online posts, pushing him further towards drink. Mallard added: 'I think he could keep going further. Once someone gets a bit of mud on them, you might as well get properly dirty.'
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and streams from 7am on ITVX.
