Emma Willis Once 'Banned' Husband Matt from Strictly Years Before Landing Top Job
Emma Willis Banned Matt from Strictly Before Hosting

Emma Willis once banned her husband Matt Willis from participating in Strictly Come Dancing, after revealing she was nervous about him succumbing to the infamous Strictly curse.

The 50-year-old star is pegged to become the new host of Strictly Come Dancing, particularly now Zoe Ball is out of the running, taking the reins from Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, who stepped down from the show in 2025.

And while Emma may be set to become part of the Strictly family, in a 10-year-old interview with The Mirror, she revealed that she would not want her husband, popstar Matt Willis, to participate.

Emma said in 2016: "I'm a jealous person. If my husband is around a younger, good-looking woman, I'm like, 'Stop looking at them'. Matt could do Strictly, because he's an amazing dancer. Every now and then he will bust out a pirouette in the middle of the living room and our daughter will be like, 'Wow, Daddy!'"

She added that despite his dancing prowess, she would be too jealous: "But I don't want him grinding against hot women. I do get jealous, but I think that's normal."

Emma and Matt, 43, married in July 2008 after meeting when she was a presenter on MTV and she was interviewing his band. The couple now shares three children: Isabelle, 16, Ace, 14, and Trixie, 10.

In 2020, former pop star Matt appeared not to heed Emma's comments as he told The Mirror that he would be very keen to take part in a dancing competition: "They'll be some sort of dancing show in my future, I am sure. Not this year, but it's a given isn't it? At some point."

He told OK! magazine in 2021 that he has been asked before but said no: "The idea of Strictly terrifies me. I've been asked a few times and always said no. Can you imagine standing there and suddenly you hear 'Tonight, dancing the cha-cha-cha, it's Matt Willis!' You know something like £12 million people are watching - no thanks."

He added at that time that it was likely off the table for him: "There's not a chance that I'd be able to cope with that kind of pressure."

However, since making these comments, Matt has started performing as The Emcee in Cabaret at The Playhouse Theatre in the West End. This role sees him sing and dance on stage, meaning he probably has a little more confidence in his live musical theatre skills than before.

Additionally, Matt's McFly pal Harry Judd won the Glitterball trophy in 2011, and his pal Tom Fletcher also competed in 2021, finishing in 7th place with partner Amy Dowden.
