A federal judge in New York has unsealed an alleged suicide note written by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, weeks before his death in 2019. The note was discovered by his cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, after Epstein's first suicide attempt in July 2019.
The note reads: “They investigated me for months – FOUND NOTHING!!! It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye. Watcha want me to do – Bust out cryin!! NO FUN – NOT WORTH IT!!” The Guardian has not independently verified the note's authenticity, and the US Department of Justice did not comment.
Tartaglione, a former police officer serving life for murder, found Epstein unresponsive in their cell. Epstein later claimed Tartaglione attacked him, according to federal records. Tartaglione passed the note to his lawyers as a potential defence against future assault allegations, and they enlisted handwriting experts to verify it.
The note was sealed as part of Tartaglione's appeal due to attorney-client privilege. It was unsealed after The New York Times petitioned the court. The New York City medical examiner ruled Epstein's death a suicide, but conspiracy theories persist due to his connections.
