Sewerby Hall Exhibition Explores 1990s 'Cool Britannia' Era

A new exhibition at Sewerby Hall in Bridlington is taking visitors back to the 1990s, exploring the cultural, political and technological landmarks of the decade. The Grade I listed country house's museum is delving into the era of 'Cool Britannia', organisers said.

Janice Smith, curator at Sewerby Hall, described the 1990s as a 'rollercoaster of a decade'. She said the exhibition would transport many back to popular culture, with television shows like The Big Breakfast, The Fast Show, and Men Behaving Badly, or films such as Trainspotting and The Full Monty.

Posters and music magazine covers would remind visitors of 'the epic battle between Blur and Oasis, and the arrival of the Spice Girls', Ms Smith added. She noted that the early 1990s were beset with 'economic gloom, war and royal scandals', but the pivotal decade saw the 'world wide web and information superhighway transform daily lives'.
