Jamie and Rebekah Vardy have opened up about their relationship in a new Netflix documentary, offering a rare glimpse into their life off the pitch. The couple, who met in 2014 when she was a nightclub promoter and he a Leicester City star, have weathered fierce family rows and the infamous Wagatha Christie trial to keep their fairytale ending alive.
Rebekah has described her marriage to Jamie as 'the only relationship I'd ever felt stable in'. The pair married in May 2016 at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, with a guest list including Louis Tomlinson and Kasabian's Sergio Pizzorno. Despite the joyful occasion, family tensions were present: Rebekah's mother Alison was absent, and Jamie's parents also did not attend.
Rebekah's difficult relationship with her mother stems from childhood sexual abuse she suffered at age 12, which she says her mother did not believe. This led to a breakdown in their relationship, with Alison missing the wedding. Jamie's background is more modest; he worked in a factory before rising to football fame.
The couple have survived the Wagatha Christie libel trial, which pitted Rebekah against Coleen Rooney. Despite the public scrutiny, they remain together, with Jamie crediting Rebekah for spurring him on throughout his career. The documentary, Untold: Jamie Vardy, explores their journey and the challenges they have overcome.
