Prey has clawed its way up the Netflix charts, leaving viewers eager to understand the twists of series one. The crime drama follows DS Susan Reinhardt (Rosie Cavaliero) as she hunts escaped prisoner DC Marcus Farrow (John Simm), who is accused of murdering his wife and youngest son.
Farrow escapes after his police van crashes, determined to find the real killer. His investigation leads him to DCI Andrea MacKenzie (Anastasia Hille), Reinhardt's boss. Years earlier, MacKenzie was assaulted by Turkish gangster Omer Hassan while undercover. Seeking revenge, she murdered Hassan and tried to cover it up.
Farrow possessed discs with evidence of MacKenzie's crime. To retrieve them, MacKenzie sent a burglar to his home, but the intruder killed Farrow's wife and son when disturbed. MacKenzie then framed Farrow to divert suspicion. She also murdered her colleague DI Sean Devlin (Craig Parkinson) when he got too close to the truth.
In the climax, Reinhardt records MacKenzie's confession. MacKenzie attempts suicide by shooting herself, but Farrow knocks the gun from her hand. MacKenzie's career and reputation are destroyed, while Farrow is exonerated and reunited with his eldest son.
