Former Saudi Student Arrested After Crossbow Attack at University of Surrey

A 21-year-old former University of Surrey student from Saudi Arabia has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot with a crossbow at the university's Manor Park student village in Guildford.

The victim, a member of the university's campus safety team in his 50s, was seriously injured in the incident at about 9.50am on Thursday. He is being treated at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, which is close to the scene.

Police said the suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the attack. Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: 'I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities, and I can reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.'

The university confirmed that a member of its campus safety team was seriously injured and receiving medical care. A spokesperson added: 'Surrey police are leading the investigation and we are giving them our full support.'
