Actor Shia LaBeouf has pleaded guilty to two counts of simple battery following an altercation during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans. The 39-year-old was arrested after a fight outside a bar in the French Quarter early on Tuesday morning.
According to court records, LaBeouf was charged with simple battery after witnesses reported he was involved in a physical confrontation. Photos and video from the scene show the actor shirtless, with his back tattoo visible, confronting a group of people outside a saloon. He was later seen receiving medical attention from paramedics before being taken away in an ambulance.
Prior to the incident, bar employees told The Hollywood Reporter that LaBeouf had been on a multi-day bar crawl, appearing shirtless and without cash, acting 'inebriated' and 'somewhat belligerent'. He allegedly asked staff 'Do you know who I am?' at one establishment.
LaBeouf has a history of legal troubles and public incidents. In 2014, he was arrested in New York for disorderly conduct after causing a scene at a theatre. In 2017, he was arrested in Georgia for public intoxication and obstruction, making racial remarks to police. He later pleaded guilty to obstruction and was sentenced to probation. In 2020, he faced battery and theft charges, which were dropped after a diversion program.
That same year, his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs sued him for sexual battery and assault, which he denied. The lawsuit was later settled. LaBeouf has publicly acknowledged his struggles with addiction and mental health, stating he was 'ashamed and sorry' for his past behaviour.
LaBeouf is currently in a relationship with British actress Mia Goth, with whom he has a daughter born in March 2022. He rose to fame as a child star on Disney Channel's Even Stevens and later appeared in the Transformers film series and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
