The family of three sisters whose bodies were discovered off Brighton beach has initiated a fundraising campaign to cover their funeral expenses, aiming to raise £18,000. Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were recovered from the water near Madeira Drive shortly after 5:45 am on May 13.
Father's Heartfelt Tribute
Their father, Joseph, shared on Wednesday that his grief has felt "unbearable" at times, but he is clinging to "the bond that death can never take away." His brother, Adesoji Adetoro, established a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising £18,000 for the sisters' funerals.
"No parent should ever have to bury their child, let alone all three," Adesoji stated. "While trying to process this unimaginable tragedy, my brother is now also faced with the heartbreaking task of arranging three funerals. As a family, we simply want to give the girls the loving and dignified farewell they deserve."
Since the fundraiser launched, more than £3,000 has been donated.
Police Investigation
Sussex Police have indicated there is no evidence of criminality in the sisters' deaths or involvement of a third party. Nonetheless, specialist detectives are diligently gathering facts surrounding their deaths. Officers have reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and have appealed to businesses and properties near the beach to help trace the women's final movements.
Chief Superintendent Adam Hays assured the public that the force "will leave no stone unturned" to understand what led to the "tragic events of that Wednesday morning."
Community Mourning
After the women were identified, Brighton and Hove City Council leader Bella Sankey expressed that learning the women were sisters "makes this troubling situation even more heartbreaking." She extended her condolences, saying, "My heart goes out to their family and their friends. Their grief and suffering must feel overwhelming, I hope that they have support in this worst of times. Brighton & Hove is grieving too and I would like to again send them our deepest condolences, and our love."
Anyone with information, particularly those who saw the sisters around the Madeira Drive area between 10 pm on May 12 and 5:30 am on May 13, is urged to come forward.
