An Austrian court has convicted a 21-year-old man for plotting a terror attack on Taylor Swift's Eras tour concert in Vienna. The defendant, identified as Beran A under Austrian privacy laws, was found guilty by the state court in Wiener Neustadt on charges related to the concert plot, as reported by the Austria Press Agency.
Beran A's defence solicitor confirmed that he admitted to the charges on the first day of his trial last month. In brief closing remarks to the court before it retired to deliberate on a verdict on Thursday, Beran A stated: 'I would just like to say that I am sorry.'
Details of the Plot
The court heard that Beran A intended to target concertgoers outside Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium using knives or homemade explosives. The plot was foiled by Austrian authorities, but Swift's three scheduled performances in August 2024 were cancelled as a precautionary measure.
Impact on Fans
Tens of thousands of Taylor Swift fans, known as Swifties, had travelled to Austria for the shows on the record-breaking Eras Tour. Left heartbroken by the cancellations, many fans gathered in central Vienna to swap friendship bracelets and share their disappointment over the scrapped gigs.
The conviction marks the conclusion of a case that drew international attention, highlighting the ongoing threat of terrorism at major public events.
