Nursery Worker Admits Raping Toddler and Online Child Sex Offences

A nursery worker has pleaded guilty to raping a toddler in his care and a string of internet child sex offences. Paul Wilson, 20, admitted orally raping a child aged two or three at Little Stars Day Nursery in Nechells, Birmingham, where he worked as an assistant.

Wilson also groomed more than 20 young girls online, persuading them to commit sexual acts and threatening to share the images if they refused to comply. He created 23 false online profiles to contact victims, posing as teenage girls, boys, or a model scout.

The court heard that Wilson took shocking pictures of himself assaulting the toddler at the nursery. Police discovered 800 indecent images of children on his devices, which he had made and distributed across England and Wales.

One mother claimed she warned the nursery about Wilson months before his arrest in January, but staff failed to act. She said she objected to a man changing nappies and was suspicious of his behaviour, but the nursery did nothing, leading her to remove her child.

Wilson was studying to be a primary school teacher at the time of his arrest. He pleaded guilty to 50 sexual offences, including two counts of rape, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and making and distributing indecent images. He denied three offences.

Judge William Davis QC remanded Wilson in custody for sentencing later this month, telling him: 'The public needs to be protected from you.' The nursery has since reopened under the same ownership after Birmingham City Council allowed it to continue operating.
