Donald Trump Claims Viral Photo of Orange Tan Line Was ‘Photoshopped’

Donald Trump has furiously claimed that a viral image showing him with a dramatic orange tan line is 'fake news' and has been digitally altered. The US President took to Twitter to denounce the photograph, which was posted by the unofficial account White House Photos on Friday.

The original picture, taken by photographer William Moon, shows Trump walking to the Oval Office. Moon, a self-described Trump enthusiast who attends press events, later clarified that he used an Apple smartphone's photo app to adjust the colour, but insisted the image was not 'photoshopped'.

Social media users mocked Trump's appearance using the hashtag #orangeface, comparing him to cats, corgis, Mrs Doubtfire, and the Oompa Loompas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One meme quipped: 'Tupperware after you store spaghetti in it.'

Trump responded with a trademark Twitter rant, claiming the photo had been altered. 'This was photoshopped, obviously, but the wind was strong and the hair looks good? Anything to demean!' he wrote.

Similar pictures taken by official White House photographers at the same time also show a tan line, though the colour is less dramatic. A Washington Post investigation concluded that a bronzer or artificial tanner likely caused the orange hue on Trump's face.
