Gerwyn Price has become the first professional darts player to publicly support the Reform Party, urging fans to vote for Nigel Farage's party in the Caerphilly by-election. The 40-year-old Welshman posted on social media ahead of the vote, calling on locals to 'make a difference and vote Reform UK Wales'.
However, Price was left disappointed on Friday morning as his favoured candidate, Llyr Powell, lost to Plaid Cymru's Lindsay Whittle. Plaid Cymru secured 47 per cent of the vote, while Reform achieved 36 per cent. Labour, which had previously held the seat, saw its support collapse to just 11 per cent.
Price, a former PDC World Champion, first hinted at his support for Reform in July when he briefly changed his Facebook profile picture to the party's logo. He had also posted days before the by-election, saying it was 'time for change'.
The darts star lives in Markham, around 20 minutes from Caerphilly, in a house featuring a 'man cave of dreams' with a snooker table, pool table, cinema screen, and darts memorabilia. His political stance contrasts with that of rival Michael van Gerwen, who in 2019 described Brexit as 'Brex-s***', a view at odds with Reform leader Nigel Farage's pro-independence stance.
