Meghan's UK Return Could Be 'Bitter Pill' for William and Kate, Says Royal Expert

The Duchess of Sussex may be poised to return to the UK for the first time since the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but a royal commentator has warned that her comeback could be a 'bitter pill' for the Prince and Princess of Wales. Meghan has not set foot in Britain since September 2022, while Prince Harry has visited several times, including for King Charles's coronation. Reports suggest the couple's police security could be reinstated, making Harry feel safer about bringing their children, Archie and Lilibet.

Relations between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family remain deeply strained. The once-close 'Fab Four'—Harry, Meghan, William, and Kate—have been at odds since before Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020. In his memoir 'Spare', Harry detailed a 2018 argument between Meghan and Kate over bridesmaids' dresses, as well as a failed mediation meeting where Kate demanded an apology. The brothers are reportedly not speaking, and tensions have only intensified since the couple moved to California.

Writing for the Sunday Times, commentator Shane Watson argued that Meghan's return would be particularly difficult for William and Kate because of her recent business success. A technical glitch on the website of Meghan's brand As Ever revealed that she had sold approximately £26.7 million worth of jam, demonstrating the viability of her lifestyle venture. 'Meghan was not coming back to the UK as the dutiful wife of the Invictus Games founder,' Watson wrote. 'She will happily return now because it will be as one of the Californian business elite.'

The commentator added that this success makes Meghan's return 'even harder for the Waleses to swallow' and 'even more gripping to watch for the rest of us.' The lingering rift was also highlighted in the couple's Netflix documentary, which showed Harry receiving a text message from William after their Oprah interview, though the contents were not disclosed.
