More than 12 years after Breaking Bad ended, creator Vince Gilligan has returned with a new series, 'Pluribus', which has already achieved a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Apple TV show, starring Rhea Seehorn, follows Carol Sturka, the world's most miserable person, who must solve a mystery when a wave of enforced joy sweeps the globe, leaving her as the only resistant individual.
Critics and fans have been effusive in their praise. TikTok film critic Megan Cruz, known as 'jstoobs', urged her 640,800 followers to watch, describing the pilot episode's scenario as 'one of the most horrifying' she can imagine, yet praising the show's blend of humour, terror and existential dread. She compared it favourably to 'Severance' and 'Lost'.
On social media, viewers echoed the enthusiasm. One commenter said: 'Just freaking quality 1000%,' while another added: 'The only people who don't like this show are brainrotted because its FANTASTIC.' However, some drew comparisons to an episode of 'Rick and Morty', expressing hope that the series offers more depth.
Currently, only two episodes have been released on Apple TV, with new episodes dropping weekly until the end of the year. The show's early success suggests it may become another landmark series for Gilligan.
