Sir Nick Faldo Embraces Rural Retreat After Major Health Procedure
Golfing icon Sir Nick Faldo has successfully undergone preventative open-heart surgery and is now enjoying a quieter existence on his expansive Montana farm. The 68-year-old sporting legend, who secured six major championships during his illustrious career, recently faced a significant health challenge that required medical intervention at a world-renowned clinic.
Recovery and Return to Normalcy
The Ryder Cup hero spent two weeks recuperating at The Cleveland Clinic under the care of distinguished cardiac surgeon Dr Lars Svensson. The procedure addressed an enlarged aorta in what was described as a scheduled preventative operation. Following his hospital stay, Faldo was photographed with his wife Lindsay De Marco as they prepared to return to their Montana home.
A social media update from the Faldo camp confirmed: "Headed home. After two weeks in Cleveland, Nick Faldo, and his wife, Lindsay, are on their way home following a successful, scheduled preventative open-heart surgery to repair his enlarged aorta."
The statement continued optimistically: "Nick is now looking ahead to returning to his golf course design work and to the Masters Week in Augusta, GA, where he will be celebrating 'Six back in '96'. Home never felt so good."
Substantial Wealth Accumulated Through Diverse Ventures
Given his status as one of golf's most decorated champions, Faldo has amassed considerable wealth throughout his playing career and subsequent retirement activities. According to Celebrity Net Worth estimates, his fortune stands at approximately £45 million ($60 million).
This substantial net worth has been built through multiple revenue streams:
- Tournament winnings from 41 professional victories, including 30 European Tour triumphs
- Lucrative broadcasting roles with major networks including Sky Sports, CBS and the BBC
- Profitable sponsorship agreements with prominent brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Mastercard and Glenmorangie whisky
- Business partnerships with golf-focused enterprises including Golfpac Travel, Upper Deck Golf and SQAIRZ
- Ambassadorial roles, including his current position representing Husqvarna's intelligent robotic lawn mowers
Beyond these ventures, Faldo established The Faldo Golf Institute in 1997 and founded his golf course design company, Faldo Design, six years earlier. Through this enterprise, he has contributed to designing more than 20 courses across the globe.
Transition to Tranquil Farm Living
Faldo, originally from Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, has exchanged the pressures of professional golf for the serenity of rural Montana. After marrying his fourth wife Lindsay De Marco in the Florida Keys in 2020, the couple initially planned to construct a home on Ponte Vedra Beach in Jacksonville.
However, the golfing legend experienced a change of heart and embraced agricultural living instead. Speaking about Faldo Farm, located outside Bozeman, he revealed to Golf News that the relocation followed his appreciation for the area during previous visits.
"After Covid, we were about to build on Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida," he explained. "Then we thought we wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle. We'd visited Montana a few times. I used to go up there and fish with Huey Lewis."
"I had a project that was almost on the Canadian border, Wilderness Club. We went there for a couple of summers with the dogs and loved it. We thought, 'Why don't we build ourselves a farm?' That's how it all started."
Embracing Community and Simplicity
Reflecting on his transformed lifestyle, Faldo expressed appreciation for the slower pace: "It's nice for me, on some days, to just go, 'What have I got to do?' My only priority might be to go and walk the dogs. That's nice, because when I'm busy, I'm busy."
The couple has become increasingly involved with their local community, with Faldo serving as an ambassador for the Crazy Mountain club near Livingston. He described their unique property with evident enthusiasm: "We've got our own - they call it town. We've got a genuine cowboy town, with the saloon, the jailhouse, the fire station, the brothel."
"It's very cool. It's genuine - over a 100 year old wooden building. We're amongst 3,000 acres of gorgeous mountains. You've got rivers, you've got golf. Everyone enjoys the good things in life, which is nice."
This new chapter represents a significant departure from Faldo's decades in the competitive spotlight, offering both physical recovery and psychological respite following his health scare. The golfing great appears to have found genuine contentment in his Montana sanctuary, balancing occasional professional commitments with the simple pleasures of rural existence.
