Anthony Joshua is targeting a comeback fight in February 2026, with Ghana emerging as the likely venue. The former heavyweight champion has not fought since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September 2024 and has been sidelined by injuries this year.
Matchroom Boxing, Joshua's promoter, has confirmed its expansion to Accra with a card scheduled for 20 December 2025. Eddie Hearn, Matchroom's chairman, described the December event as a 'precursor' to Joshua headlining a show in the same location next February.
'We're doing a show in Ghana on December 20th,' Hearn told The Ring. 'Obviously this will not be an AJ show but it's still going to be a good show. The idea is that this is probably a precursor for an AJ show out there.'
Joshua's next opponent remains unconfirmed, though Nigeria-born American Kingsley Ibeh has publicly called out the former champion. Ibeh told Sky Sports: 'We need the right platform and the right opponent to make a statement with and there'd be no better one than AJ. That would be definitely a dream come true.'
Hearn added that the December card will feature fighters with Ghanaian backgrounds alongside Matchroom's own roster. The move follows the legacy of the historic 'Rumble in the Jungle' fight in Africa.
