Professional boxer Gervonta Davis has had a significant felony charge of false imprisonment against him formally dismissed by authorities, months after his arrest in connection with a domestic abuse allegation at a Florida strip club. The 31-year-old former three-weight world champion was taken into custody at the end of January following an extensive two-week police search.
Arrest and Initial Charges
The arrest stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred in October 2025 at a Miami Gardens strip club. Officials initially issued an arrest warrant for Davis on January 14, charging him with misdemeanor battery, felony attempted kidnapping, and felony false imprisonment. These serious accusations were made by a South Florida dancer who claimed to have had an intimate relationship with the boxer that ended approximately one month prior to the alleged altercation.
Details of the Alleged Incident
According to police reports, the woman—whose identity authorities have chosen to keep anonymous—accused Davis of approaching her while she was working at the establishment around 4:15 AM local time in October. She alleged that Davis grabbed her by the back of her head, pulling her hair with one hand and her throat with another.
The complainant stated that Davis then forcefully escorted her down a stairway and into a parking garage while maintaining his grip. Upon reaching the parking area, he reportedly released her, after which she ran to her co-workers for assistance. The woman reported minor injuries including bruising to her left arm and filed a formal police report two days after the incident.
Evidence and Legal Proceedings
Law enforcement officials confirmed that detectives had obtained video footage that corroborates key elements of the victim's statements. However, according to TMZ reports, authorities have now dismissed the false imprisonment charge after deeming it redundant. The more serious charges of attempted kidnapping and battery remain active against the boxing star.
Civil Lawsuit and Previous Allegations
The alleged victim has also filed a civil lawsuit against Davis over the October altercation, which derailed his planned mega-fight against Jake Paul that was scheduled for November. The legal complaint details at least four previous altercations between the two, including two incidents in which Davis allegedly threatened to kill her.
One confrontation reportedly occurred on September 2 after she failed to respond to messages from the boxer. Another took place on September 23, when Davis allegedly accused her of infidelity, sent a text threatening to kill her, and then assaulted her at a restaurant.
Impact on the Alleged Victim
The lawsuit states that the woman is now undergoing therapy for post-traumatic stress and anxiety and is living with others out of fear for her safety. She is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages and has requested a jury trial to resolve the civil matter.
Davis's History of Legal Troubles
This alleged attack represents the latest in a series of legal issues for the prominent boxer. In July of the same year, Davis had been arrested on a battery charge that was later dropped by another former girlfriend. He has previously faced multiple domestic violence allegations and a 2023 hit-and-run conviction in Baltimore that resulted in 90 days of home detention and three years of probation.
The dismissal of the false imprisonment charge marks a partial legal development in what remains a complex and ongoing case with serious implications for Davis's career and personal life. The remaining charges continue to proceed through the legal system as both criminal and civil actions unfold simultaneously.
