Promoter Eddie Hearn has issued a heartfelt and emotional tribute following the tragic deaths of two close friends and team members of heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua.
A Tragic Incident on Nigerian Roads
The devastating event occurred on Monday, 30 December 2025, on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria. Anthony Joshua was involved in the collision and was subsequently rushed to hospital with minor injuries.
Tragically, his companions, personal trainer Sina Ghami and strength and conditioning coach Kevin 'Latz' Ayodele, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Both men were integral parts of Joshua's inner circle, known as Team Joshua, and were considered much more than just staff.
Hearn's Emotional Public Tribute
In the wake of the tragedy, Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, took to social media to express his grief and offer condolences. On Instagram, the 46-year-old promoter shared a series of photos featuring Joshua, Latz, and Sina.
He accompanied the images with a moving caption that read: "Rest in peace Latz and Sina. Your energy and loyalty among so many other great qualities will be deeply missed. Praying for strength and guidance for all their family, friends and of course AJ during this very difficult time."
The post underscores the profound personal loss felt within the boxing community, highlighting the men's valued personal qualities beyond their professional roles.
Community Mourning and Joshua's Recovery
The news has sent shockwaves through the world of boxing and beyond, prompting an outpouring of online tributes for the two fitness professionals. Friends, fans, and fellow athletes have shared memories and messages of support.
While the focus remains on mourning Ghami and Ayodele, attention is also on Anthony Joshua's recovery from his injuries. The two-time heavyweight world champion is understood to be receiving care, with the wider sporting world wishing him a swift and full recovery as he processes this immense personal loss.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the close-knit bonds formed within sports teams, where colleagues often become family.
