YouTube star turned professional boxer Jake Paul has undergone surgery after suffering a severe double broken jaw during his punishing defeat to former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Post-Fight Hospital Visit and Surgery
The social media influencer, who was stopped in the sixth round of their high-profile bout in Miami, confirmed the extent of his injuries from his hospital bed. Paul took to social media on Saturday 20 December 2025 to share an X-ray image and detail his immediate medical situation.
"Just got out of surgery. Everything went smooth. Thanks for all the love. Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days," Paul wrote in his update. He also praised the staff at Miami University Hospital, stating: "S/o to the amazing team... Everyone was so gracious and caring."
The Brutal Fight Details
The fight, which took place on Friday night, saw a resilient Paul initially frustrate the Olympic gold medallist. However, Joshua's superior power told in the later rounds. Anthony Joshua secured two knockdowns in the fifth round before decisively ending the contest with a flurry of punches in the sixth, forcing the referee to intervene.
Remarkably, Paul's promoter, Nakisa Bidarian, revealed that the 28-year-old drove himself to the hospital following the devastating loss to seek treatment for his fractured jaw.
Recovery Timeline and Future Plans
While providing a positive update on the surgery itself, Paul now faces a significant period of recuperation. Bidarian indicated that the expected recovery period is four to six weeks.
Despite the severe injury and one-sided defeat, Jake Paul signalled his intent to continue his boxing career. Immediately after the fight, he confirmed in the ring that his jaw was broken but vowed he would return to compete at cruiserweight.
This latest setback represents the most serious physical challenge of Paul's boxing journey to date, raising questions about the future trajectory of his fights against elite-level opposition.
