The long-awaited, all-British heavyweight super-fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury could finally be heading to Wembley Stadium in the summer of 2026, according to the latest behind-the-scenes updates from promoters.
Wembley or Riyadh: The Venue Decision
Tyson Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, has made it clear where he believes the historic clash should take place. In an interview with the Sun, Warren stated that the two viable locations are Wembley Stadium or Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He strongly advocated for the UK's national stadium, emphasising its symbolic importance. "I believe Wembley's the home for it," Warren said, adding that a summer date would be necessary if the iconic London venue is chosen.
Why a February Fight is 'An Impossibility'
Warren has poured cold water on any speculation that the fight could be arranged for as soon as February. He cited Anthony Joshua's holiday plans and subsequent training schedule as the primary obstacle. "For him now to go on holiday and to come back and be ready to fight in February is going to be an impossibility," the promoter explained. He confirmed that AJ is already scheduled to fight in February, making the timeline for a Fury bout unworkably tight.
Fury's Simple Terms and Secret Training
In a revealing insight, Warren shared a private message he received from Tyson Fury just a couple of weeks ago. The Gypsy King's stance was straightforward: "You know what my requirements are; if they get met, I'll be there on the night." Despite being officially retired from boxing, Fury is reportedly keeping himself in shape. Warren noted, "I know he's sort of been training, not training to fight, but he's been ticking over and keeping himself fairly well."
The public call-out came directly from Anthony Joshua following his knockout victory over Jake Paul. Speaking to Netflix, Joshua issued a direct challenge: "If Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on his gloves, and come and fight one of the realest fighters out there, then I'll take on the challenge."
Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, immediately reinforced the desire for the fight, labelling it "the biggest fight." Joshua also revealed that discussions have already begun, stating Hearn had been speaking with Saudi Arabia's Turki Al-Sheikh about making the fight a reality for the Riyadh Season.
Fury himself has never been shy about predicting the outcome. Before Joshua's fight with Paul, he sent a stark warning to his rival: "Here's a fun fact: if I ever come across you, I'm knocking you spark out." With promoters now actively negotiating venues and dates, British fight fans may finally see these two giants settle their rivalry in the ring at Wembley in 2026.
