Anthony Joshua's Miami Move: Smart Prep for Jake Paul Clash Revealed
Joshua's smart Miami move weeks before Jake Paul fight

Former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has taken a strategic step ahead of his highly anticipated return to the ring, flying to Miami weeks before his bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

Joshua's Strategic Preparation in Florida

Anthony Joshua has not fought since his knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024 at Wembley Stadium. After being sidelined for most of 2025 due to injury and undergoing elbow surgery, the British star is now in full training. His comeback is set for December 19 in Miami, Florida, where he will face Jake Paul over eight three-minute rounds, with both men wearing 10oz gloves.

In a savvy move to adjust to the time zone and conditions, Joshua has already travelled to Miami. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed the early arrival, stating Joshua is treating the contest with the seriousness of a world title fight. "He's good, he's really dialled in as if he was fighting an elite heavyweight," Hearn told talkSPORT.

The Unconventional Weight Clause

A unique stipulation in the fight agreement requires Joshua to weigh no more than 245lb (111kg). This is notably lighter than his typical fighting weight, presenting a new challenge for the heavyweight. Hearn admitted to initially exaggerating Joshua's weight during negotiations, falsely telling MVP's Nakisa Bidarian that Joshua was walking around at 290lb to secure fairer terms.

"They said, 'look, we're not being funny... but we need you to have some disadvantage,'" Hearn revealed, explaining the rationale behind the weight clause given Paul's expected 220lb frame. Despite the required cut, Hearn reports Joshua is "on track" and in "tremendous shape."

Event Details and How to Watch

The Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul fight is scheduled for December 19 at the AT&T Stadium in Miami. The main event walk-outs are expected around 11pm local time (4am UK time), with the schedule subject to the undercard duration. The event will be streamed live globally on Netflix, with UK fans able to access the platform via Sky's TV bundles.

While Joshua is the overwhelming favourite, Hearn's comments underscore that the Brit is taking no chances. "I just can't believe we've signed the contract to fight him," Hearn said, capturing the surreal nature of the crossover bout, before adding, "he's ready to go and do a job on him."
