Conor McGregor has taken a cheeky swipe at Jake Paul following the YouTube star's brutal knockout defeat to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
The Knockout Blow in Miami
The controversial bout, which took place last Friday in Miami, ended decisively in the sixth round when Anthony Joshua put Jake Paul on the canvas for a final time. The 28-year-old Paul was comprehensively beaten, with the fight's aftermath revealing the extent of the damage.
Paul sustained a broken jaw during the contest, requiring immediate surgery. Medical procedures included fitting titanium plates on each side of his mouth and the removal of two teeth. In a social media update, Paul revealed he would be restricted to a liquid diet for seven days, meaning he missed out on a traditional Christmas dinner.
Social Media Spat and Recovery
Despite his injuries, Paul posted a defiant festive message on X (formerly Twitter), writing: "God is great. Broken jaw but brain and spine all clear. Never been more motivated. Merry Christmas to all around the world."
This prompted a swift and sardonic reply from UFC icon Conor McGregor. The Irish fighter commented, "Indeed! God is great! Enjoy your Christmas smoothies bro," before deleting the post. The exchange has fuelled further speculation about a potential future clash between the two outspoken personalities.
Expert Predictions for a Future Clash
Former world champion boxer George Groves has already weighed in on the prospect of a Paul vs McGregor fight. Groves suggested it could be a unique multi-sport contest involving boxing, wrestling, and bare-knuckle boxing rounds.
"Conor McGregor is the biggest name in mixed martial arts and very limited in his boxing ability," Groves told BetVictor Casino. "I reckon Jake Paul beats Conor McGregor... The trash talk will be exceptional. He might even get under Conor McGregor's skin." He made Paul the favourite for such an unusual matchup.
Following his loss to Joshua, Jake Paul indicated he would be taking a break from fighting. "I'm feeling good, that was fun. I love this sport. I gave it my all," Paul reflected. "We're going to heal the broken jaw, fight someone my weight and go for the cruiserweight world title. I'm going to take a little break."
Whether this hiatus includes planning a blockbuster event against Conor McGregor remains the subject of intense fan and pundit speculation as we head into 2026.
