In a deeply emotional revelation, heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury has shared that he "knew" his wife Paris had suffered a miscarriage when she made an excuse not to attend his pivotal 2024 fight against Oleksandr Usyk. The 37-year-old professional boxer was abroad preparing for what he described as the "fight of a lifetime" while Paris, 36, endured the devastating loss at six months pregnant.
A Heartbreaking Decision
The mother-of-seven chose to keep the tragic news from Tyson, fearing it would upset him just days before the high-stakes bout. Opening up about their profound loss in the second series of their Netflix documentary, At Home With The Furys, Tyson expressed deep regret at not being there for Paris "for the first time in 20 years." Paris explained the harrowing sequence of events, stating, "Going through everything these last few months, obviously he had the loss at the fight and at home, I lost the baby."
The Gender Scan Revelation
Paris detailed how she attended a gender scan alone, expecting a routine appointment. "I went into the gender scan and got told there wasn't a heartbeat and I just walked outside and started to cry," she recounted. With less than a week until Tyson's fight, she faced an agonizing dilemma. During a FaceTime call, when Tyson asked why she was in the hospital, she lied about having high blood pressure, then broke down in tears after hanging up. She made the selfless decision not to tell him and skipped the fight entirely.
Tyson's Intuition and Regret
Tyson shared his immediate suspicion, saying, "A pack of wild horses couldn't keep Paris away from them fights, so I thought to myself, 'Yeah, she's lost that baby, hundred percent.'" He lamented, "For the first time in 20 years, I couldn't be there for her in her most needed time and that was the upsetting thing for me. I was in a foreign country, abroad, about to do the biggest thing of my life and I just wanted to be home for my wife."
Returning Home to Tragedy
Paris described Tyson's return as feeling "like something out of a movie," with both facing immense losses: Tyson had his belts taken after losing to Usyk, and she had the baby taken from her. Tyson confirmed he knew the truth but had been in denial. Paris selflessly endured the agony of giving birth to a stillborn child alone so Tyson could focus on his bout in Saudi Arabia, where he ultimately lost his WBC world heavyweight title.
Previous Losses and Resilience
This is not the first time Paris has hidden a miscarriage from Tyson to protect his focus before a fight. In 2018, she kept a miscarriage secret ahead of Tyson's comeback fight after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, sitting alone in her car crying. She has also experienced a stillbirth in 2014 at five months pregnant, which she says is "something I'll never really get over." Despite these tragedies, Paris remains resilient, emphasizing, "Whatever we've got, we are very lucky. We are all fit and healthy, I've got seven lovely, beautiful healthy kids and it's just time to enjoy family life."
The couple are parents to Venezuela, 16, Prince John James, 14, Prince Tyson Fury II, nine, Valencia, eight, Prince Adonis, seven, Athena, four, and Prince Rico, two. Tyson appeared on the verge of tears when confirming they lost a little boy in 2024, stating, "She lost [the baby] on the Friday of the fight, which was pretty s****y," but stressed he wasn't making excuses for his loss. When asked about having more children, Tyson replied, "I don't know if she's back to normal on that. It takes a lot of getting over."
